In 2022, Rep. Menz became the first Latina elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives, and the first Woman Veteran elected to the Oklahoma Legislature in state history.&nbsp; </h4>Born in Oklahoma City, Menz was raised by an Army veteran father, a Mexican immigrant mother, and her grandparents. At age 17, she enlisted in the United States Navy and is a third-generation veteran. Menz’s professional experience includes six years as a nonpartisan Legislative and Executive Assistant at the Capitol and three years with non-profit organizations that provide behavioral care, immunizations, and prescription drugs to low-income communities. Recreationally, Annie and her son enjoy skeet shooting, video gaming, and hiking around Lake Thunderbird. Menz is a member of the American Legion and AFSCME. She is the founder of the annual Hispanic Cultural Day at the State Capitol and a founding member of the Oklahoma Legislative Latino Caucus. She is the recipient of several awards, including Quilts of Valor, ODPVC Legislator of the Year, Norman Next Under 40, and the Oklahoma Hispanic Institute Top 40 Leadership Award. Menz proudly serves on the board of directors for the Norman Cultural Connection and The Beacon Project.&nbsp; “Watching my family serve our country, church, and community, I learned the value of hard work and public service at an early age. They showed me how to love my neighbors without exception. Since concluding my service with the Navy, I’ve continually sought opportunities to make a difference. For about 7 years as a staffer at the Capitol, I specialized in legislative research, constituent communication, and casework, and developed relationships on both sides of the aisle. Annie Menz, D-Norman, was named the 2026 Representative of the Year by the Oklahoma Veterans Council during the annual Veterans Awareness Day joint legislative session.“This was such a surprise, and I'm deeply honored! The Veteran's Council does outstanding work, and I feel grateful to have this acknowledgment from this esteemed organization,” said Menz. “I am a proud third-generation Veteran, sister of a USMC Veteran, and former USMC spouse. I know firsthand the struggles and sacrifices our brave veterans and military families are facing, and I know a lot of folks in East Norman do as well. Oklahoma continues to be the most Veteran-friendly state, and I look forward to continuing to support legislation aimed at caring for our nation's heroes. I am proud to bring this honor to HD45, and I would like to dedicate it to all the Women warriors who stood watch, are currently standing watch, and those standing the eternal watch.”Menz is the first Woman Veteran to be elected to the Oklahoma Legislature in state history, is a member of the Legislative Veterans and Public Safety Caucus and sits on the House Appropriations and Budget Transportation Subcommittee.

Annie Menz won the Democratic primary for House District 45 over Evan Shepherd, and will advance to the November general election to face&nbsp;<a href="https://voteforcarolyn.com/%7C-about" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Carolyn Womack-Bielich</a>.As of 8:06 p.m., with 13 of 15 precincts reporting, Menz earned 93.23% of votes, or 2,576 total votes, according to unofficial results from the <a href="https://results.okelections.gov/OKER/?elecDate=20260616" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Oklahoma State Election Board’s website.</a> Shepherd earned 6.77%, or 187 total votes.&nbsp;<a href="https://censusreporter.org/profiles/62000US40045-state-house-district-45-ok/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Census</a> and <a href="https://www.okhouse.gov/district/45" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">district mapping data</a> show House District 45 includes a mix of OU students, longtime Norman residents and rural‑edge neighborhoods. Candidate websites show affordability, education and access to state services are the top concerns raised by residents.

NORMAN - Annie Menz won the Democratic primary for House District 45 and will advance to the November general election. Coming into 93.1% of the vote.
